Metro 2039 takes us back to Moscow, but it’s still got some delicious bits of Exodus in there

PC Gamer · 3 hours ago

A new gameplay trailer for Metro 2039 shows the series returning to Moscow’s underground tunnels while retaining several systems associated with Metro Exodus. The footage suggests 4A Games is combining the earlier games’ confined, survival-horror atmosphere with weapon customisation, environmental interaction and detailed first-person presentation; it matters because it offers the clearest recent indication of how the sequel will balance the series’ older and newer design approaches.

The two-minute “Renegade” trailer follows the new voiced protagonist, the Stranger, as he infiltrates Moscow under Novoreich control, using stealth and combat. It includes scenes in Sevastopolskaya station and on Moscow’s irradiated surface, alongside gun modification, mask maintenance, stealth takedowns and mutants. Metro 2039 is scheduled for February 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
