Michael Douglas Asked To Be Killed Off Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’: “They Wouldn’t Let Me”

Deadline ·

Michael Douglas says he asked Marvel to kill off his character, Hank Pym, after the second Ant-Man film, but the studio declined. He had initially wanted to experience acting in a green-screen production, yet later found the work difficult because scenes required him to react to effects and settings that would be added later.

Douglas said the cast, including Paul Rudd, was lovely, but joked that contractual fine print made it hard to leave. After Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), he appeared in Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), and voiced Pym in episodes of What If…? from 2021 to 2023.

  • Douglas wanted Hank Pym killed off after the second Ant-Man film.
  • Marvel did not agree to his request.
  • He said green-screen acting was challenging.
