‘Michael’ Sets Streaming Release Date After Billion-Dollar Box Office Run
Developing story first seen 4 hours ago
The Michael Jackson biopic "Michael" will begin streaming on Starz from 10 August, following a theatrical run that grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, making it one of 2026's biggest box office hits. The film's success has prompted Lionsgate to put a sequel into active development, with critics suggesting it could become the first biopic to spawn a franchise.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, the film traces Jackson's career from his childhood in the Jackson 5 through to his "Bad" tour in the late 1980s. It stars the singer's real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in the title role, alongside Juliano Valdi as a young Michael, with a supporting cast including Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham and Larenz Tate. First announced by Lionsgate in February 2022, the project had been in development for over four years before its April 2026 theatrical release.
