Michigan teen volleyball player files lawsuit after she unknowingly shared locker room with trans athlete

Fox News ·

A 16-year-old volleyball player and her father have filed a federal lawsuit over an alleged incident in which a transgender athlete from an opposing team shared the girls’ locker room. The player says she did not know at the time and felt frightened and uncomfortable when she learned about it days later; the case raises questions about privacy, school policies and the rights of female athletes.

The lawsuit, filed on 9 October, names Monroe Public Schools, the Michigan High School Athletic Association and school officials, and makes Title IX and constitutional claims. It alleges that officials concealed the athlete’s presence at a 9 September 2025 match, dismissed the family’s discrimination complaint and denied a meaningful appeal. The district says it has not been served with a lawsuit and remains committed to following state and federal law.
