Mick Jagger Gives His Stamp of Approval to Rising Rock Star’s Cover of Rolling Stones Classic
Mick Jagger has praised Sam Fender’s cover of the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, calling it a “great job”. Fender recorded the track for John Lewis’s 20th Christmas advert, bringing a new version of the classic to the retailer’s annual festive campaign.
Fender said it was a privilege to rework the song and added a children’s choir from his former school, John Spence Community High School, alongside a brass section arranged with Easington Colliery Band. He produced the recording with Joe Atkinson and Dean Thompson. The advert stars Dame Kristin Scott Thomas and centres on choosing a thoughtful gift rather than worrying about finding the perfect one.
