Microsoft upgrades compact Surface devices with six-core Snapdragon X2 Plus
Microsoft is updating its 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop with Qualcomm’s six-core Snapdragon X2 Plus processors. The devices retain last year’s designs and most hardware features, but offer improved efficiency, graphics and local AI performance while launching at significantly higher prices.
Both models now start with 16GB of RAM, rather than 8GB, and support up to 24GB. The Surface Pro starts at $1,149.99 and the Surface Laptop at $1,199.99 from 13 October; claimed gains include up to 18% better battery efficiency, over 60% faster graphics and up to 95% faster AI processing. Battery life rises to 13 hours for the Pro and 18 hours for the Laptop, while both displays become brighter at 500 nits and retain the same ports, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support.
