A 38-year-old mother, Corie A. Walsh, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder after her two-year-old son died during what police in Frankfort, Illinois, described as a "domestic homicide incident" at the family's $1 million home. She was found attempting self-harm at the property and taken to hospital, while the toddler was also rushed to hospital but later pronounced dead. The case has drawn comparisons from a neighbour to that of Lindsay Clancy, currently on trial in Massachusetts for killing her children.

Police said three other children in the home were unharmed, and details of how the boy died have not been disclosed. Walsh will be moved to Will County Adult Detention Facility to await a hearing once released from hospital. Frankfort Police Chief Leanne Chelepis extended condolences to the family and asked the community to respect their privacy, while neighbour Carolyn Pappas said the tragedy showed "more people are struggling than we realise."
