Mikako of Nagie Lane reflected on hosting Billboard Japan’s Women In Music – EQUAL STAGE, describing it as a meaningful opportunity to confront experiences of gender inequality and recognise that others may share them. She said the event’s all-female line-up and international-facing artists made a strong statement, while encouraging continued discussion about women’s experiences in music and society.

Having grown up in Vienna, mikako discussed how stereotypes about women being “emotional” have made her wary that her opinions could be dismissed during important conversations. She praised performances by ATARASHII GAKKO!, Hitsujibungaku, LANA and Awich at the Tokyo event on 9 June, highlighting their authenticity, individuality and messages of strength, love and self-expression.
