Mike Flanagan is teaming up with Stephen King on a new eight-episode adaptation of "Carrie" for Prime Video, confirmed to premiere on 7 October. Flanagan, known for acclaimed horror series such as "The Haunting of Hill House" and "Midnight Mass," wrote and serves as showrunner on the project, directing four episodes himself, while King acts as an executive producer. The remake aims to distinguish itself from earlier film versions by grounding Carrie White's story firmly in the modern high school experience, addressing criticism that the 2013 film added little new to the original 1976 classic.

Summer H. Howell has been cast as Carrie White following an extensive search, joined by returning Flanagan collaborators Samantha Sloyan and Rahul Kohli. The wider cast includes Siena Agudong, Amber Midthunder, Matthew Lillard, Alison Thornton and Josie Totah. The series format is expected to allow deeper exploration of supporting characters and the school environment than previous feature-length adaptations.
