Miku Martineau Hits the Water in First Trailer for Netflix’s New YA Series ‘Crew Girl’

Netflix has released the first trailer for *Crew Girl*, a young-adult drama about competitive rowing starring Miku Martineau. The series follows Teagan Tao, a promising single-sculls rower whose future is derailed by a family scandal, forcing her to start again at an elite new school while balancing sporting ambitions, social pressures and romantic tensions.
At Easton Prep, Teagan discovers there is no girls’ rowing team and becomes coxswain for the school’s dysfunctional boys’ varsity crew. The eight-episode first season co-stars Jessica Paré, Sam Braun, Kyle Clark and Thomas Cadrot; it was created and showrun by Vivian Lin and premieres on Netflix on 10 September.

Competitive rowing is a sport in which individuals or teams race narrow boats using oars. A single sculls competitor rows alone, while a coxswain sits in a larger crew boat to steer, give instructions and help set the pace.
The series focuses on a pupil moving to a new school after problems affecting her family disrupt her sporting career. At her new school, she has to find a place in an established boys’ crew while dealing with the pressures of school life and relationships.
Young-adult dramas are programmes aimed mainly at teenage and young adult viewers, often combining school, family and friendship stories. Netflix is releasing the eight-episode first season internationally on its streaming service.
