This jukebox musical revisits Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis’s famous 1956 meeting at Sun Studios, mixing historical fact with substantial invention. Although its script is blunt and episodic, the production matters because energetic performances and lively musicianship revive familiar rock’n’roll songs with considerable force.

The show retains only two songs from the original session, adding hits such as “Great Balls of Fire” that were recorded later, while presenting the studio as a colourful retro diner and fairground. Connor Payne, Christopher Erasmus, Joe Bence and Joey Bradick convincingly capture the quartet’s distinctive energy, supported by a strong rhythm section; Jenay Naima is especially striking in “Fever” and “I Hear You Knocking”. It runs in London until 6 December before touring until 17 July.
