Minecraft announced for Switch 2 with enhanced graphics

Polygon · 2 hours ago

Minecraft is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 this autumn, with Mojang building a native version of the sandbox game specifically optimised for the new console. The release brings the "Vibrant Visuals" graphics update as standard, giving the game a substantial visual overhaul including enhanced lighting, volumetric fog, improved water reflections and more detailed shadows, while keeping its trademark blocky aesthetic intact.

Existing owners of Minecraft on the original Switch will not need to buy the game again, as Mojang is offering an upgrade path to the Switch 2 edition, likely via a discounted purchase or an eligible subscription, though full pricing details have yet to be confirmed. The launch caps off a busy period for the franchise, which has also added furniture and decorative items in a recent update, alongside the previously announced Minecraft Dungeons 2 and a further Minecraft film both due in 2027. Minecraft arrives on Switch 2 on 27 October.
