Minecraft Is Making Changes To Minecoins On Nintendo Platforms

Nintendo Life · 3 hours ago

Mojang has announced upcoming changes to how Minecoins can be used on Nintendo platforms, ahead of Minecraft's launch on Switch 2 this October. From 27th October 2026, Minecoins bought on Nintendo devices will only be usable on Switch or Switch 2, and Minecoins purchased elsewhere will no longer work for Marketplace purchases on Nintendo systems, effectively ending cross-platform spending for currency bought after that date.

Any Minecoins already owned before the cutoff will move into a "Legacy Wallet" and remain usable across platforms with no expiry, though these will be spent first in future transactions. Mojang has also warned that some retail and Minecoin gift cards may no longer support Nintendo devices, advising players to check packaging carefully, and has confirmed a digital upgrade path will be available for existing Switch owners moving to the Switch 2 version, though pricing details have not yet been announced.
