Microsoft has updated Minecraft Java Edition’s published system requirements, raising the listed minimum and recommended hardware levels. The company says the game has not suddenly become more demanding; instead, the old specifications no longer accurately reflected the hardware needed for a smooth modern experience.

The new minimum targets 1080p at 30fps on the Fast preset and calls for 8GB RAM with a discrete GPU, or 12GB with integrated graphics; the recommended specification is 16GB RAM for 1080p at 60fps on Fancy. Recommended hardware includes an RTX 2060, Radeon RX 5600 XT or Intel Arc A580, alongside a Core i5-12400 or Ryzen 5 5600; older devices may still run the game but could suffer poor frame rates, visual issues and long loading times.
