Miracle ‘Skyrim’ Mod Adds Essential Feature That Was Impossible For Nearly 15 Years
A modder is developing a Skyrim modification that adds dynamic snow deformation, allowing characters to leave footprints, trenches and raised edges in deep snow. The feature matters because Skyrim’s largely static game geometry led many modders to believe it could not be implemented reliably in the nearly 15-year-old game engine.
The work-in-progress mod uses three-dimensional layers over snowy surfaces and can restore snow as snowfall continues, gradually covering tracks. It is intended to support custom snow textures and Community Shaders for lower-performance systems; its creator, Josef Rudberg, is still refining NPC interactions, weather-dependent refilling, wind effects and spell interactions before release.
- A new Skyrim mod finally enables convincing dynamic snow deformation.
- It creates footprints and deeper tracks in snow.
- The unfinished mod aims to remain accessible on modest hardware.
