Four-year-old Gus Lamont disappeared on 27 September after being seen playing near his grandparents’ remote sheep station in South Australia, about 40 kilometres south of Yunta. Despite extensive ground and air searches, he has not been found. His grandmother, Josie Murray, now says she believes a stranger abducted him because she feels no other explanation makes sense.

Police said in February they believed someone known to Gus may have killed him, either deliberately or accidentally, before he was reported missing. They identified a person living at Oak Park Station as being known to the child, while ruling out his parents; however, police have not confirmed whether that person remains a suspect or whether others have been identified. Murray says police told her she is the main suspect, but she denies involvement, and no arrests or charges have been made.
