A pub sign that vanished from the Hallamshire House in Sheffield in 1999 has turned up more than two decades later — hanging in a friend's flat in Brooklyn, New York. The sign, which had been missing for around 25 years, was spotted by chance by a couple who used to be regulars at the pub, and its unlikely reappearance has been celebrated locally as the return of a treasured piece of Sheffield history.

The sign, made for Ward's brewery, originally hung outside the Hallamshire House before disappearing without explanation in 1999. Former regulars Peter and Ann, who had moved to Brooklyn, said they were astonished to recognise it hanging in a friend's apartment; Ann reportedly identified it instantly from her time visiting the pub. The couple arranged for the sign to be sent back to Sheffield, and the pub shared news of its return, describing it as a "very well travelled" artefact finally reunited with its original home.
