Cincinnati Reds slugger Eugenio Suarez missed two games this week to sit the US naturalisation test, successfully becoming an American citizen. On his return to the lineup on Friday night, his teammates greeted him by changing his walk-up song to "God Bless the USA", and he responded by hitting a home run in the third inning.

The 35-year-old Venezuelan-born player has had a strong recent stretch despite briefly being placed on waivers earlier in August, going unclaimed before returning to the Reds' lineup and hitting six home runs with 20 RBIs and an .852 OPS that month. He is batting .207 for the season but ranks third on the team with 21 home runs, and has amassed 346 home runs over a 13-year MLB career spent with Detroit, Seattle, Arizona and two spells with Cincinnati.
