MNT follows up its open hardware portables with a desktop case
MNT has launched the Station, a compact desktop enclosure designed to reuse motherboards removed from its modular Reform laptops after an upgrade. The $299 case extends the useful life of older hardware and reinforces MNT’s emphasis on repairability, documentation and open hardware, though its price makes it a niche option.
The CNC-milled aluminium Station supports Reform motherboard versions 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0, with optional additions including extra USB-C ports, Wi-Fi with external antennas and battery packs. MNT’s Arm-based Reform laptops start at $1,299, while Pocket Reform models begin at $1,200; cheaper used mini PCs are available from about $65, highlighting the premium attached to open, maintainable hardware.
