Modern Warfare 4 beta dates set for August, and this year Game Pass subscribers get no special treatment
Activision has set testing windows for Modern Warfare 4 ahead of its late October release. Pre-order holders on major platforms gain entry during the final week of August, while a public beta opens to all players shortly after, with Switch 2 joining the broader test phase. The extended five-day pre-order window allows early adopters to begin simultaneously with the official Call of Duty Next broadcast rather than watching streamers play first.
A significant departure from recent precedent is Game Pass's exclusion from early beta access. Players holding Microsoft's subscription service no longer receive the priority entry they enjoyed during the Black Ops 6 and 7 betas, a consequence of Microsoft's broader decision to remove new Call of Duty titles from its subscription offering.
- Activision announced Modern Warfare 4 beta dates: pre-order access August 21-25 (PC/PS5/Xbox), public beta August 28–September 1 (all platforms including Switch 2)
- Game Pass subscribers excluded from early access for the first time, mirroring Microsoft's recent decision to stop offering new Call of Duty titles on the service
