Mom gives birth in KFC parking lot and gives newborn fitting fast-food nickname
Katie Murphy, 33, gave birth to her son Cody in the car park of a KFC in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, on 29 August. The unexpected delivery occurred while she and her partner, Stephen Kirby, were driving back to hospital, and inspired the nickname “Colonel Cody” after KFC founder Colonel Harland Sanders.
The couple had earlier been sent home because labour was considered too early, but Katie’s contractions continued. About halfway through the 30-minute journey, she realised the baby was arriving; Stephen pulled into their local KFC, caught Cody as he was born at 9.35pm, and called emergency services. An ambulance arrived roughly five minutes later, and Cody was reported to be healthy; KFC offered the family merchandise, vouchers and a future celebratory meal.
