A large cliff fall at Budleigh Salterton in Devon sent rocks and boulders crashing onto a beach close to sunbathers, narrowly avoiding beachgoers. The incident highlights the continuing danger posed by unstable coastal cliffs, particularly during busy summer periods.

The collapse occurred on Saturday, 26 July, and an eyewitness estimated that thousands of tonnes of rock had fallen. Police, coastguard and lifeboat crews attended, while two people left stranded beyond the debris were taken back to Budleigh Beach by lifeboat; the coast path was also closed.
