Jury sees footage of murder accused fleeing police after cyclist’s death
Simon Richardson is on trial, accused of murdering cyclist and headteacher Michael Mullins by striking him with his car and dragging him beneath it for 1.3 miles. Prosecutors say Richardson knew Mullins was under the vehicle but continued driving; he denies murder, manslaughter and dangerous driving.
Jurors were shown dashcam footage of Richardson fleeing police in a van the day after the crash, before officers caught him on foot. The court heard that Mullins, 56, was found alive in a lane in Cheshire but died at the scene about 40 minutes after being knocked from his bike on 20 April. Richardson is also alleged to have driven erratically before the collision and deliberately swerved before Mullins was dislodged.
