M&S worker injured trying to stop e-bike clothing theft in Nottinghamshire
An M&S worker at the Giltbrook shop in Nottinghamshire was knocked down and dragged when he tried to stop a suspected thief escaping on an e-bike with children’s clothes. Police said the use of force led them to treat the case as suspected robbery rather than shoplifting, and a 36-year-old man was later arrested.
The rider had entered the shop on the bike and allegedly taken about £200 of clothing. The worker suffered minor injuries and the suspect initially got away after a struggle inside the shop. The report also cites official figures showing business robberies rose 67 per cent to more than 31,000, while recorded shoplifting fell 2 per cent to 519,516; retailers say some offences may now be recorded as robbery.
