Capcom has released a free demo for Monster Hunter Wilds, giving undecided players a chance to try the game before committing to the full purchase, though the trial has a notable restriction: it cannot be played online. Progress made in the demo does, however, carry over to the full game. The release comes as Capcom works to revive interest in Wilds ahead of its Ascendance expansion, due in 2027, following a rocky launch and ongoing performance problems.

The demo covers the game's opening, from character creation through Chapter 1-3, allowing players to fight early monsters and test all 14 weapons, including a reworked Insect Glaive. While co-op is unavailable, NPC support during hunts is included, and the demo also serves as a practical way to check whether a player's hardware can handle the notoriously poorly optimised game. Wilds launched in February 2025 to a mixed reception, sitting between 65 and 70 percent positive reviews on Steam, well below predecessors World and Rise, largely due to technical issues and criticism over microtransactions. Alongside the demo, Capcom has introduced a permanent price cut, new editions and cosmetic DLC, as it looks to build momentum before Ascendance.
