Netflix has released a trailer for "Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story," the fourth instalment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's true-crime anthology series, which this time dramatises the notorious 1893 axe murders in Fall River, Massachusetts. Ella Beatty plays Lizzie Borden, a 32-year-old Sunday school teacher accused of killing her father and stepmother, a case that has fascinated true-crime audiences for over a century despite her eventual acquittal. The series marks the first "Monster" season to centre on a female killer, following previous chapters on Jeffrey Dahmer, Ed Gein and the Menendez brothers.

The eight-episode drama also stars Rebecca Hall as stepmother Abby Borden and Charlie Hunnam, fresh off an Emmy nomination for playing Ed Gein, as father Andrew Borden, alongside Billie Lourd, Joey Pollari, Sarah Paulson and Jessica Barden. Borden was said to have struck her parents with nearly 40 axe blows before being tried and acquitted. Murphy and Brennan co-created the series, with Max Winkler and Sarah Adina Smith directing; it follows earlier screen adaptations including Lifetime's "The Lizzie Borden Chronicles" and the 2018 film "Lizzie."
