Moonlighter, the acclaimed 2018 action RPG that mixes roguelite dungeon crawling with shopkeeping, is being given away free on Steam for a limited period. Developer Digital Sun is offering the game at no cost as it gears up to release its sequel, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, next month, using the promotion to draw new players into the franchise ahead of launch.

The free claim window runs until 9 August. In Moonlighter, players control Will, who spends nights raiding procedurally generated dungeons for loot and days running a shop in the village of Rynoka, pricing goods and reinvesting profits into gear and upgrades. The Steam version has grown substantially since its original release, gaining new bosses, companions, over 100 additional room layouts, expanded lore and a New Game+ mode. Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is due out on 2 September after nearly a year in Early Access, having earlier drawn praise for deeper combat and a 3D world, albeit with room for further polish.
