Nicola Sturgeon has been reported to Police Scotland by pro-independence blogger Stuart Campbell, of the Wings Over Scotland website, who alleges she may be guilty of reset, the Scots law offence of knowingly retaining property acquired through theft, fraud or embezzlement. The complaint follows the jailing of her estranged husband, former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell, for more than five years after he admitted embezzling over £400,000 of party funds. It piles fresh pressure on the former First Minister, with Scottish Conservative justice spokesman Stephen Kerr saying serious questions remain about what she knew and demanding full co-operation with any police inquiry.

Murrell used embezzled money to buy various high-value items, including a £425 gold necklace from a Shetland jeweller, where he reportedly described himself as "the man with the money". Campbell claims Sturgeon has publicly refused to hand back such items, citing a BBC1 interview broadcast on 31 May 2026, and says he acted after Police Scotland failed to clarify whether the law applied to her. In that interview, Sturgeon said a legal process would follow to recover the embezzled funds from Murrell but insisted anything belonging to her should not be included. Police Scotland said it had received information and would respond in due course, while Sturgeon's lawyer, Aamer Anwar, has been approached for comment.
