Morgan Rogers ‘excited to join biggest club in London’ after making £117m Chelsea move

The Guardian · 2 hours ago

Morgan Rogers has completed a £117m move from Aston Villa to Chelsea, signing a seven-year deal that makes him the club's record signing. The 23-year-old England international's arrival matters because Chelsea beat Arsenal to his signature, with the chance to work under new manager Xabi Alonso reportedly the decisive factor, as the club looks to overhaul its squad after a disappointing 10th-place finish last season.

The deal was agreed on Saturday, shortly after Rogers helped England secure third place at the World Cup, starting in the semi-final defeat to Argentina and the bronze-medal win over France. He leaves Villa having scored 31 goals in 125 appearances since joining from Middlesbrough in January 2024, and becomes Chelsea's fourth summer signing after Marco Palestra, Emmanuel Emegha and Geovany Quenda, in what is seen as the club's biggest buy since Cole Palmer's arrival in 2023.
