BBC Sport ·

Edendork won the Tyrone Senior Football Championship for the first time, as Niall Morgan’s last-kick two-point free defeated Errigal Ciaran. The victory ended a 94-year wait and delivered a historic title for the club and its parish.

Darren McCurry scored 1-6 in the first half, including a penalty, as Edendork fought back from four points down to lead by two at half-time. Errigal moved one point ahead with three late scores, but Morgan’s finish secured the win; Edendork will next face Down champions Clonduff in the Ulster Club Championship.

In short

  • Niall Morgan’s last-kick two-pointer won Edendork their first Tyrone title.
  • The club ended a 94-year wait for the O’Neill Cup.
  • Edendork now advance to the Ulster Club Championship.

Explained simply

Edendork and Errigal Ciaran are Gaelic football clubs from County Tyrone, competing in the county’s top club championship. The competition decides Tyrone’s senior club champions, who then represent the county in the Ulster Club Championship.

Edendork had never won the Tyrone title in the club’s 94-year history. Niall Morgan and Darren McCurry are among the players central to the team, while Errigal Ciaran are another established Tyrone club.

The Ulster competition brings together champion clubs from across the province, so winning Tyrone’s title also gives Edendork a place in a wider regional contest. Clonduff, the champions of County Down, are their next opponents.
