According to the Metropolitan Police, officers were first called after a group congregated in the road and blocked traffic, before the situation escalated. Footage appeared to show flares set off and missiles thrown at officers, with shisha pipes and chairs taken from a restaurant and hurled. Four people were arrested for violent disorder and one officer was taken to hospital with a head injury after being struck by a glass bottle. Riot police with shields and helmets were later deployed, including near Marble Arch, and the report noted similar trouble in Paris after France's win.
