A Mexican woman living illegally in Texas was deported by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) just days after publicly criticising the agency's detention of her American citizen teenage son. On 11 September, her 17-year-old son Luis and another teenager were detained during a traffic stop in Alamo, about 239 miles from San Antonio, in an operation that was recorded and widely shared online. The mother's swift deportation and the proximity of these events have raised questions about potential retaliation.

Teresa De Jesus Ochoa Briseno was returned to Mexico by ICE on Monday, having previously complained that officers detained her son for eight hours without providing information or updates. Her son alleged that officers beat him and his friend during the stop, resulting in a broken wrist; video footage appeared to show physical contact between officers and the teenagers. The Department of Homeland Security characterised the teenagers as "anti-ICE agitators" attempting to obstruct operations and stated that officers sustained injuries, but declined to confirm whether the mother's deportation was connected to her public complaints. Her immigration attorney has questioned the coincidence of her detention occurring a week after her son's arrest, and the complaint has been referred to the DHS's Office of Inspector General for investigation.
