Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee has praised guitarist John 5, saying he brought fresh energy to the band after joining in autumn 2022 as a replacement for co-founding guitarist Mick Mars, who stepped back from touring due to illness. The comments, made during a Q&A at the Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy Camp in Hollywood, highlight the smooth transition and renewed camaraderie within the band following a significant line-up change.

Speaking alongside John 5 at the "Sunset Strip" edition of the camp held in late April and early May, Tommy Lee said the guitarist brought "fire and excitement" to the group and praised his musicianship and character, while acknowledging Mars's contribution. John 5, previously of Rob Zombie's band for 17 years, described learning the setlist and joining rehearsals as a "dream come true", noting his long-standing friendships with Lee and bassist Nikki Sixx made the transition easier. He also spoke, in an earlier 2024 interview, of his admiration for Mars's dedication despite his health struggles.
