Jan St. Werner, one half of German electronic duo Mouse on Mars, has announced a new solo album, Squares Will Fall, out on 13 November via Thrill Jockey. The record brings together an eclectic cast of collaborators, including Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, Beirut's Zach Condon and the National's Ben Lanz, marking a notable convergence of experimental electronic and indie songwriting talent.

The three-track album is led by its title piece, whose origins trace back to 2012 when Werner first recorded a 30-minute version for a friend's birthday; it later became the basis for a studio improvisation with Vernon, who contributes lyrics and vocals, and was subsequently performed live at the 2021 Ural Industrial Biennial using suspended speakers manipulated by performers. The tracklist also includes "Swamp Brains," featuring singer Rosanne Rubino, and "Flötotto," with Stevens on drum machine and Lanz on trombone and bass. It follows Werner's 2023 solo release, Space Synthesis.
