Mousey city-builder Whiskerwood gets a bit wetter today with a hefty nautical update that lets your rodent kingdom venture out on the open seas
Whiskerwood, a city-building game in which mice live under the rule of tyrannical cats, has received its "Nautical Update" today, expanding the game beyond its original single-island setting. Developed by Minakata Dynamics, the update introduces ships, shipyards, boat battles and trading, letting players venture out to explore the wider world for the first time. The developers describe this as the second act of the game, building on the initial story of the rodent population coming to terms with feline rule.
Players will now navigate a 2D grid-based map by sea, encountering pirates who raid the cats' colonies and gradually undermine their control, eventually forcing the cats to hand over schematics for building a navy. Beyond combat, sailors can fish and trade goods at islands to gather resources, though ships require crew with the new Sailor or Officer skills, with larger vessels needing both. Home islands remain vulnerable to attack while players are away at sea, adding a defensive element, and the game is currently available at a 50% discount on Steam.
