Alex Ullom, the 27-year-old director whose horror debut It Ends opens in cinemas this week, has already wrapped filming on his next project, 4 X 4: The Event. Described by Ullom as the stylistic opposite of his low-key debut, the new film is a maximalist thriller he pitches as "illegal, off-the-grid MrBeast Games meets political revolution and Gaspar Noé," citing the intense visual style of Noé's Enter the Void and Climax as key influences.

According to Deadline, the film follows eight contestants trapped in an illegal, sensory-assault livestream where they must kill or be killed using only items they can order online, with IMDb summarising it as "Battle Royale meets Saw meets Climax." The cast, assembled through a demanding process led by casting director Kim Winther (recently of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey), includes Jaden Smith, Sophia Lillis and at least one actor returning from It Ends. No release date has yet been set for 4 X 4: The Event, while It Ends arrives in US theatres on 21 August via Neon.
