Accurso split public figures into those speaking out for Palestinian children and those she accused of staying silent because "these children are not worth it to them," citing a UN commission's June estimate that more than 20,000 Palestinian children had been killed. Israel has rejected that commission's findings as methodologically flawed, while the same body previously reported 40 Israeli children killed and hundreds injured in Hamas's 7 October 2023 attack.
