South Yorkshire Police have launched a murder investigation after a newborn baby girl was found dead at a property in Sheffield. The case is at an early stage, and detectives have urged the public not to speculate while they establish the circumstances of the death.

Officers were called to Holywell Heights in the Wincobank area shortly before 6am on Sunday following concerns for an infant’s safety. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts by police and paramedics to save her, and seven people have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.
