Murder-suicide epidemic rocks one of America’s richest zip codes: Mystery wiping out millionaire families sparks troubling theories

Three couples have been found dead in suspected murder-suicides in Santa Monica this year, after no such cases were reported there between 2020 and 2025. Experts cited in the article say financial strain may contribute, despite appearances of wealth, and point to housing costs, homelessness and business closures as sources of frustration. One nearby case involved nonprofit director Jeremy Ferguson and his wife Mandy Zelinka, who were found dead in their Venice home in April; investigators said another man fatally shot his pregnant wife before killing himself.
