Muriqi caps Fenerbahce comeback to make Liverpool pay for defensive lapses
Liverpool lost 3-2 to Fenerbahce in Istanbul after twice taking the lead, ending their perfect start in the Champions League. Vedat Muriqi scored the late winner, punishing defensive errors and adding to the frustration of head coach Andoni Iraola, whose side had also lost to Arsenal.
Trey Nyoni scored his first senior goal to put Liverpool ahead, and substitute Alexander Isak later restored their lead with a header. Fenerbahce equalised quickly both times, first through a deflected Mason Greenwood free-kick, before Muriqi completed the comeback. Liverpool’s attack also struggled, with Bradley Barcola largely anonymous, while the defeat marked their second in succession.
In short
- Fenerbahce beat Liverpool 3-2 with a late Muriqi winner.
- Liverpool surrendered the lead twice in Istanbul.
- The loss ended their perfect Champions League run.
