My Chemical Romance Face Legal Action From Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Over Stage Costumes

Rolling Stone ·

My Chemical Romance is facing legal action over cheerleader costumes worn by dancers during its Hollywood Bowl residency. Pro Silver Star Ltd., which owns the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders brand, says the outfits could make audiences believe the dancers were actual members of the squad.

During “Teenagers”, dancers in the costumes staged a firefight with rifles and were depicted being shot. Pro Silver Star sought a temporary restraining order and injunction after the band declined a request to stop using the uniform; it says it does not object to the band’s music, message or choreography, only to the use of the DCC outfit. Video from a later performance appeared to show the dancers wearing similar costumes again.

In short

  • Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ brand owner is taking legal action over MCR costumes.
  • The dispute concerns the uniforms, not the band’s music or performance.
  • Dancers appeared in similar outfits again after the filing.
