My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way suggested during the final night of the band's Black Parade tour in San Antonio that the group hopes to record a new album, which would be its first in more than 15 years. Speaking to fans at the Alamodome on 12 September, Way described it as an aspiration rather than a confirmed plan, saying the band has "always wanted to make another record" but could not say when it might happen. The comments matter because they mark the band's clearest public acknowledgement yet of a possible fifth studio album since reuniting in 2019, though no title, timeline or release date was given.

Any new record would be My Chemical Romance's first full-length release since 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, with the band having issued only one standalone single, "The Foundations of Decay", since reforming. The remarks came as the band wrapped a successful tour marking the 20th anniversary of The Black Parade, which has been extended into a global stadium run for 2026 covering North America, the UK and Europe, alongside a reissue of the album due in October. The Black Parade remains the band's commercial peak, having gone four-times platinum in the US and topped Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart, while its lead single "Welcome to the Black Parade" reached number nine on the Hot 100 and is five-times platinum.
