Lee Roberts, 46, from Barnsley, says his guide dog Isha has transformed his independence and confidence after he lost his sight in both eyes following sepsis in 2020. The pair’s partnership has enabled him to take up activities including ballroom dancing and jiu-jitsu, illustrating the practical and social support guide dogs can provide to people adapting to sight loss.

Roberts waited three years to be matched with the three-year-old labradoodle, and has since climbed Yr Wyddfa and completed a major zip line fundraiser for Guide Dogs. He plans to complete the National Three Peaks challenge and take part in a charity skydive, while Isha has been shortlisted in the animal category of BBC Radio Sheffield’s Make a Difference Awards, due to be announced in September.
