Mystery $40million Aussie Lotto winner finally comes forward to claim his prize: How he found out he won
A man from Woden in Canberra has come forward to claim a $40 million (Australian dollar) Powerball prize, two weeks after the winning draw took place. He had bought the sole winning ticket for draw 1571, held on 25 June 2026, but was unaware of his good fortune until he saw a news report about an unclaimed prize and decided to check the ticket that had been sitting in his wallet.
The winner said he was still in shock, having completely forgotten about the ticket until the coverage prompted him to look. He intends to keep working, viewing the money as security for future children and grandchildren. The ticket was purchased at Thistle Kiosk in Westfield Woden, whose owner, Rudy Lu, said the newsagency has a long history of selling division one winning entries and suspected it had sold this one when he heard of an unregistered Canberra winner.
