A metal detectorist has discovered a 2,700-year-old bronze sword found standing upright in the ground in northern Poland, an unusual find that has attracted attention from archaeologists. The discovery was announced by the Pomeranian Provincial Heritage Conservator, highlighting the region's rich Bronze Age heritage and offering fresh insight into ancient burial or ritual practices near the Baltic coast.

The sword was found by hobbyist Marcin Wiśniewski in the Gdańsk Forest District and has been dated to the Late Bronze Age, roughly between 900 and 700 BC. Its unusual upright position has puzzled experts, fuelling speculation about whether it was deliberately placed as part of a ritual offering rather than simply lost or discarded.
