An unidentified man is being hailed as a hero after alerting a sleeping family in Las Vegas to a pre-dawn house fire, allowing them to escape. The family say he banged on their door, shouted “Fire!” and tried to tackle the flames with a garden hose before leaving without giving his name.

The fire began shortly before 5am on 5 July. The family are now trying to find the man to thank him, believing his intervention may have saved both their lives and those of neighbouring residents.
