An unidentified man who alerted a sleeping Las Vegas family to a house fire remains untraced, with the family seeking to thank him for what they believe was life-saving intervention. They say his warning allowed them to escape the predawn blaze and may also have helped protect neighbouring homes.
The fire began shortly before 5am on 5 July. According to the family, the passer-by banged on their front door, shouted “Fire!” and used a garden hose to try to tackle the flames before leaving without giving his name.

House fires can spread quickly, especially when people are asleep and may not notice smoke or flames straight away. In the United States, emergency services are usually called to deal with fires, but neighbours or passers-by can sometimes raise the alarm before firefighters arrive.
Las Vegas is a large city in Nevada, where summer temperatures can be very high and dry conditions can increase fire risks. A fire at one home can also threaten nearby properties, particularly in residential areas where houses are close together.
The family are trying to identify the person who warned them so they can thank him. Such appeals often rely on local media, social media and information from witnesses who may have seen the person nearby.
