Google has added its Nano Banana image-generation tool to Google Earth, allowing users to create AI-generated visualisations tied to locations. The company presents it chiefly as an educational aid for imagining historical settings, but the feature also raises questions about visual accuracy because such reconstructions are necessarily speculative.

Google says teachers could use it to turn present-day Pompeii ruins into a depiction of the city in 78 AD, while property developers could generate concepts for empty sites or proposed buildings before construction. It can also make location-based infographics, such as one for the Statue of Liberty including historical details, although Google has not said whether this works everywhere in Google Earth; the integration is available now.
