Nansun Shi, the pioneering Hong Kong film producer and executive who co-founded Film Workshop and produced the cult crime thriller Infernal Affairs, has died at the age of 75. She passed away on Monday at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, with the production company stating she had been in declining health since 2022 due to immune system complications that recently caused multiple organ dysfunction. Her death marks the loss of one of the most influential figures behind Hong Kong cinema's golden age and its early-2000s revival.

Shi began her career in television in the mid-1970s before joining Cinema City in 1981, where she oversaw finance and overseas sales. In 1984 she co-founded Film Workshop with director Tsui Hark, whom she later married and subsequently divorced, producing landmark titles including A Chinese Ghost Story and John Woo's A Better Tomorrow. In 2002 she produced Infernal Affairs, the acclaimed undercover-cop thriller that Martin Scorsese later remade as the Oscar-winning The Departed, cementing her reputation as one of the first Hong Kong producers to build genuine international distribution networks for Chinese-language film.
