Chicago P.D., NBC's long-running police procedural, has become an unexpected global streaming success after its first five seasons debuted on Netflix internationally this month. The show is benefiting from the so-called "Netflix Effect", whereby older network dramas find new audiences once complete seasons become available to stream, echoing earlier successes such as Suits. The move matters because it extends the reach of a franchise that has aired on NBC for fifteen years, introducing it to viewers in markets where it was previously less accessible.

Chicago P.D. focuses on an elite Chicago Police Department unit led by the morally ambiguous veteran Hank Voight, played by Jason Beghe, and forms part of a wider three-series NBC franchise with more than thirty seasons combined. The series remains unavailable to US audiences on Netflix, as domestic streaming rights belong to Peacock, though it had previously streamed internationally on Prime Video. Since arriving on Netflix, it has topped the charts in several countries, particularly in the Caribbean, and reached number 11 on FlixPatrol's global rankings, with a further rise possible in the coming days. A new season is expected to air on NBC this autumn.
